- As-tu gardé contact avec les joueurs avec qui tu as évolué au RCT ? Avec qui communiques-tu le plus ?
Oui je suis resté en contact avec beaucoup de joueurs à Toulon. J’adorais notre groupe que nous avions pendant mes deux années passés au club et le groupe d’amis que nous avions ma femme et moi me manque. Je suis en contact avec Matt Henjak, Dean Schofield, Jonny (Wilkinson), Joe El Abd, Carl and Ches (Kris Chesney). Je garde aussi contact avec Sonny (Bill Williams) et Fotu (Auelua) sur twitter et nous nous envoyons des messages de temps en temps.
- Est-ce que tu suis les résultats de Toulon ? Que penses-tu de cette première partie de saison en top14 ?
Je suis en effet les résultats mais tous les matchs ne sont pas télédiffusés au Royaume-Uni. Occasionnellement il y a un match diffusé sur ESPN que je peux regarder mais je suis surtout les résultats dans les journaux et sur internet. C’est bon de voir que l’équipe va bien. Le Top 14 est un championnat très difficile et pour faire partie du haut du chapeau dans ce championnat tu te dois de bien jouer et Toulon s’en sort pas mal à ce sujet.
- Quel est ton meilleur souvenir au RCT ? Quel était ton endroit préféré à Toulon ?
Il y en a eu tellement pendant ces 2 ans. On a vu des endroits fantastiques, rencontré des gens super et j’ai joué devant l’un des public les plus passionnés du monde du rugby je pense. On a aimé chaque minute passé là bas mais jouer la finale du Challenge Européen à Marseille au soleil, et avec les supporters a été génial. C’est tellement dommage que nous ayons perdu !
A Toulon même, mon endroit préféré était Mayol bien sur, mais dans les alentours, mon endroit préféré était chez moi, au Mont des Oiseaux : nous avions une vue incroyable sur la mer et les plus beaux levés et couchés de soleil que nous ayons vu.
- Comment s’est passé ton intégration chez les Saints ?
Arriver chez les Saints a été plutôt facile. J’avais évolué au Royaume-Uni un long moment déjà et je connaissais la plupart des joueurs pour avoir déjà joué contre eux. Il y a aussi 6 personnes qui étaient à Newcastle quand j’évoluais là bas. D’un point de vue jeu, la structure du club est top, et combinée avec les infrastructures, nous sommes au plus proche des standards internationaux. J’étais en discussion avec plusieurs clubs de Premiership et Northampton était devenu une évidence pour moi.
- A quel poste évolues-tu principalement avec ta nouvelle équipe ?
Je joue au poste de 12 à Northampton mais j’ai joué un match à l’aile contre les Harlequins pour compenser des blessures. J’aime beaucoup jouer pour les Saints, c’est un bon groupe dans lequel évoluer et nous pouvons vraiment faire quelque chose dans cette compétition.
- Comment se passe la vie à Northampton ? Carqueiranne ou Northampton ? 😉
Carqueiranne! J’adore cet endroit ! J’aime là où l’on vie aujourd’hui mais Carqueiranne était spécial ! La vie y est agréable et nous adorions ce que le village où nous vivions avait à offrir. Nous vivons à la campagne donc c’est top pour nos chiens et ça a l’avantage d’être à seulement 35 minutes en train du centre de Londres.
- Peux-tu nous parler de everything4rugby.com ? Qu’est-ce que c’est ? Peux-tu nous expliquer quel est ton rôle dans cette entreprise ?
Le business sur lequel je travaille en ce moment s’appelle www.everything4rugby.com. Cela nous a pris 11 mois pour préparer tout ça et maintenant nous essayons d’aider les petits clubs à travers le Royaume Uni à réduire leurs coûts pour des choses comme les bières, le vin, les alcools, le gaz, l’électricité, le matériel et les équipements. Je suis un des directeurs de la compagnie. Tout à commencé lors d’une discussion autour d’un diner et d’un verre de vin rouge à Val d’Isere quand nous sommes allés skier l’an dernier. Mon partenaire occupait le même chalet que nous à l’époque et nous avons échangé plein de bonne idées ensemble.
- As-tu un message spécial à faire passer aux supporters toulonnais ?
Un grand merci pour le soutien pendant mes deux années au club. J’ai eu une première année géniale en termes de jeu. La seconde a été bien plus dure pour moi sur ce point mais les supporters ont toujours était très gentils avec moi. Bonne chance pour cette saison et peut être que l’on se reverra à nouveau à Mayol si j’ai l’occasion de passer voir un match un de ces quatre.

- Have you kept in touch with the players with whom you have played for RCT? Who are you communicating the most with ?
Yes, I have kept in touch with many of the players in Toulon. I loved the group we had for the two years I spent with the club and miss the group of friends that my wife and I made. I stay in touch with Matt Henjak, Dean Schofield, Jonny, Joe El Abd, Carl and Ches. I also keep in contact with Sonny and Fotu on Twitter and we send messages every now and again.
- Do you follow the results of Toulon? What do you think of this first part of top14 season ?
I do follow the results but not all of the games are on TV here in the UK. Occasionally, there may be a game on ESPN which I can watch but I do keep a look for the results in the paper and on the internet. It’s good to see that the team is going well. The Top 14 season is a very tough competition to play in and to be in the top half of the league you have to play well and Toulon have been doing that for the most part.
- What’s your best memory at RCT? What was your favorite place in Toulon?
There are so many good memories from the two years we spent there. We saw some fantastic places, met some great people and I played in front of one of the most passionate set of fans in world club rugby I think. We loved every minute but playing the European Challenge Cup Final at Marseille in the sun and with home support was great. Just a shame we lost! In the town of Toulon, my favorite place was Mayol of course but in the area, my favorite place was our house on Mont des Oiseaux – we had an amazing view of the sea and some of the best sunrises and sunsets we have seen.
- How was your integration with the Saints?
Moving to the Saints was easy. I have played rugby in the UK for a long time and knew many of the players from playing against them. There are also 6 others who were at Newcastle when I was playing there. In terms of the playing side, the structure of the club is great and the facilities combined with this means it is as close to international standards you can get. I spoke to a few clubs in the Premiership and Northampton was the one for me as soon as I looked round.
- At what position do you mainly play with your new team?
I have been playing 12 at Northampton but I played one game on the wing in October against Harlequins to cover injuries. I am enjoying playing for the Saints and it is a good group to be involved in as we can hopefully do well in this competition.
How is life in Northampton? Carqueiranne or Northampton? 😉
Carqueiranne! I love that place!! I love where we live now but Carqueiranne was special! Life is good here and we enjoy what the village we live in has to offer. We live in the country so it is good for our dogs and it has the benefit that it is only 35 minutes on a train into central London.
- Can you talk to us about everything4rugby.com ? What is it ? Can you explain us what your occupation is in this company ? Do you have other activities like that one ?
The business I am working on at the moment is called www.everything4rugby.com We have spent 11 months preparing the business and now we are trying to help small clubs across the UK reduce the costs that they pay for things like beers, wines, spirits, gas, electricity, kit and equipment. I am one of the directors of the company. It all started in a conversation over dinner with a nice glass of red wine in Val d’Isere when we went skiing last year. My business partner was staying in the same chalet at the time and we had some great ideas come together.
- Do you have a special message for Toulon’s supporters?
Many thanks for the support in my two years at the club. I had a great first year playing. The second year was much harder for me in terms of game time but the supporters were always very good to me. Good luck this season and I may see you again in Mayol if I come over and watch a game some day.
